“Professor Wonserk Kim: Exploring the Clinical Value and Future Potential of the Six-Pulse Mode in Q-Switched Laser Therapy”
Professor Wonserk Kim of Kangbuk Samsung Hospital, a leading authority in medical-aesthetic laser research in Korea, recently published a pivotal clinical study comparing single-pulse and six-pulse modes in Q-switched Nd:YAG laser treatments. His findings demonstrate that the six-pulse mode delivers superior clinical outcomes by dividing the total energy into multiple sub-pulses, effectively enhancing melanin targeting while reducing thermal and mechanical damage to surrounding tissues.
In the interview, Professor Kim emphasizes that the study’s core insight lies not in energy intensity but in how energy is delivered. The six-pulse structure introduces a new therapeutic mechanism through controlled thermal stacking, enabling both pigment improvement and dermal collagen remodeling—a true dual effect that redefines conventional laser toning.
He further highlights that multi-pulse technology is especially valuable for Asian patients, whose higher prevalence of pigmentary disorders demands safer yet effective treatment methods. Looking ahead, Professor Kim envisions the integration of multi-pulse systems, artificial intelligence, and multi-wavelength platforms as the future of laser medicine.
